Frustration

Have you ever tried doing something, putting in a lot of effort, and in the end, all you get is a wet blanket or words of sarcasm? Have you wondered whether it is even worth all the trouble that you are putting in?

My company is actually holding a Christmas Party at the end of the year and everyone is very busy. I know it’s not good to disturb everyone thus I discussed it with a few colleagues beforehand, and sent the results out to let people choose. They dun have to brainstorm with me, just choose which theme to go for and know who to buy present for. We had a Secret Santa. And I  suggested a prize to our financial director for the best-dressed-to-theme for the party on my own and I just sent out an email saying thanks to our financial director for sponsoring a prize for the best-dressed to win, and ask everyone to think hard what to wear. That’s all. Just a couple of emails. They dun even really have to do anything since everything is already planned out for them. But in the end, I had my boss sent out an email to everyone that we should not be DISRESPECTFUL to those that are working hard. I dun mind the rest of the contents of the email, but, disrespectful? WTF? I see everyone working so hard, I love everyone in this company, thus I tot everyone deserve a fun party. I planned and organize everything on my own. They dun even have to do anything. Except to buy present and know what theme to wear for the party. Where’s the part about being disrespectful? It’s not easy to organize something, and built up a mood. Especially with people who are not responsive. There are lots of people to liaise and also, personal disappointment when there is not much response. And now, there is even an accusation of being disrespectful, when I have tried my best to stick it to just a couple of emails to notify people because I actually consulted another colleague and heeded the advice of sticking to as few emails as possible. Forget it. Now I know why some people tend to change their spontaneous characters over time, refusing to take up any planner’s job. Because seriously, if it all went well, people just say, “thanks”. But most of the times, you get the shorter side of the stick. It’s hard to be spontaneous when the company doesn’t appreciate it and give a lashing unnecessarily. Companies, where the boss know when to let the fun slide in as a reward for the employees, then will there be a sense of belonging.

And when I go back to my shell, please don’t complain that no one is putting in effort to organize. Because you don’t appreciate it, no one will step up to do it.
